Matt Pettinelli, Founder and CEO of CapGrow Partners, knows that navigating the intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) market carries both risks and rewards. He launched CapGrow as a startup 14 years ago and has successfully grown the company into a multi-award winning organization. Last year, Pettinelli shared his insights on entrepreneurship, innovation, and growth for the web broadcast, “Bootstrapping in America.”
The show, produced by tastytrade, invited Pettinelli to speak as part of their series of interviews with “some of the hottest entrepreneurs in Chicago and beyond.” Segments highlight business leaders who share insights on how they founded and developed successful enterprises.
For Pettinelli, a driving factor was building a career that would allow him to find purpose and give back in a meaningful way. His parents had devoted careers in the social services field, and it showed him first-hand how much of a need there was for better housing solutions for individuals in the I/DD community.
“I grew up in a household of two social workers, and my father owned a company…that today would be a client of mine,” explained Pettinelli in the interview. “So I knew of the industry, and even within that I knew there was a void in the industry, and that’s what CapGrow has looked to fill.”
In 2005, Pettinelli started his company with the hopes of becoming a strategic partner for I/DD organizations. CapGrow’s approach to providing housing enables their healthcare partners who offer home- and community-based services to focus on the individuals they serve, rather than having to worry about finding or purchasing real estate on their own.
Today, CapGrow purchases and leases homes for its partners in 27 states and has helped to house over 1,300 individuals. Pettinelli and his team have also garnered national recognition via multiple awards, including Chicago’s “Best and Brightest Companies To Work For®,” the Gold Stevie® Award, and Inc. 5000’s “Fastest Growing Private Companies.”
