CapGrow Partners and VERTESS have spent the last decade working to assist providers in their overall mission to support individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). Independently, our two organizations recognized an opportunity to bring together executives in the I/DD provider space where they could share experiences and discuss best practices for the market. In conjunction with OPEN MINDS, we were able to create a biannual event that accomplished just that. All three organizations agreed that in light of changing policies, now more than ever, an event that brought together top executives in the industry to share ideas was invaluable. Through our collaboration, we created the OPEN MINDS I/DD Executive Summit.
The first I/DD Executive Summit in Clearwater Beach, Florida took place on February 15th, 2017, and was well received by leaders from around the country. The conversations that took place in Clearwater fostered honest communication aimed towards solving national problems and capitalizing on opportunities.
Attendees had this to say:
"It was rare to attend an event where leadership was so engaged and encouraged to speak with their peers."
"It was refreshing to hear from people that were determined to cause action and solve problems instead of those who only vented their hardships without proposing any solutions."
“Relevant and timely information focused on taking action(s) NOW to prepare for the ongoing changes to the I/DD sector. Learning from the experiences of others while gaining insight into the reform of Medicaid and ‘the system’ was extremely valuable for our organization.”
“Thank you for organizing a fabulous opportunity for learning and networking with colleagues and leaders, all focused on creating a better future for our communities.”
"This summit was informative for anyone trying to navigate the changing policies that affect people with I/DD."
Due to the positive responses and desire to further conversations, we developed a brief white paper to express some of what was discovered at the summit. Download that paper here.
The I/DD Executive Summit will continue to evolve and foster relevant conversations between executives across the nation. To attend the next I/DD Executive Summit on August 15th, 2017, in Long Beach, California, register today.
